As of May 26, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) had provided approximately $3.8 million in humanitarian assistance to IDPs in Pakistan, including halal meals, air-conditioned tents, and generators.   <description>On May 20 and 21, three C-17 sorties transporting U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)-provided halal meals and general-purpose tents arrived in Islamabad. U.S. Ambassador Anne W. Patterson and Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmad from the Government of Pakistan (GoP) Special Support Group (SSG) received the flights on May 20. DoD consigned 50 general-purpose tents and more than 100,000 halal meals to the SSG for internally displaced persons (IDPs). In addition, DoD plans to provide air conditioning units, generators, and water transportation vehicles to the GoP to support relief efforts.</description>

  <description>As of May 18, the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) had registered approximately 1.45 million new internally displaced persons (IDPs) since May 2, including more than 130,000 IDPs in camps and more than 1.3 million individuals residing outside of camps in host communities. Newly displaced populations bring the total registered IDP caseload in Pakistan to more than 2 million individuals. The USAID/DART in Pakistan notes that IDP numbers continue to rapidly increase. On May 19, Secretary of State Hillary R. Clinton pledged more than $100 million in additional USG humanitarian assistance to conflict-affected persons in Pakistan.</description>
