Pilot Schools Stride Towards Sustainability

Over the past two years, the 11 pilot schools participating in the USAID Participation, Education and Knowledge Strengthening (PEAKS) project in Kyrgyzstan have received assistance to become high-quality training and resource centers for clusters of surrounding schools. Now legally registered as Centers of Innovative Education Technologies, the pilot schools are able to operate as independent training providers, offering courses in modern educational technologies and teaching methods for preschool, school, and extracurricular teachers. The new legal status will enable the schools to minimize their financial dependence on external support.

To strengthen collaboration with state authorities and other organizations, the Centers have recently formed two associations (one in northern Kyrgyzstan, the other in the south) which will work to increase participation of schools in education policymaking and serve as advocacy structures to promote necessary changes both within the Government and among their constituent communities.
