USAID Holds Moldova’s First Conference for Faith-Based Organizations
In December 2007, USAID and U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Michael D. Kirby hosted the first International Faith and Community Based Initiatives Conference in Moldova to assist local faith-based and community organizations with their important social programs.
Conference participants received assistance in developing partnerships with congregations, churches, and synagogues in the U.S. and developed their capacity to access funding from the U.S. Government, other bilateral donors, foundations, and the private sector to help expand their community programs and ultimately be more effective in their development work.
“Faith and community-based organizations are vital partners of USAID’s development efforts. We are committed to pursuing innovative strategies to support these organizations’ work, and believe that the Moldova conference is yet another method to strengthen their effectiveness in the host country, not only as partners of USAID, but also as collaborative groups. Moldova’s civil society will now be better equipped to address some of its most critical needs,” stated USAID Administrator Henrietta Fore.
