USAID Assistance Results in $64 million of Grants to Fight HIV/AIDS in Central Asia

The Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM) recently announced that it will provide over $64 million over five years to fund HIV/AIDS activities in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The award was won with extensive assistance from USAID projects which, in collaboration with UNAIDS, trained Central Asian experts on developing successful funding applications and provided extensive technical support for drafting documents. The Kazakhstan award, worth over $35 million, requires some further clarification and a final approval from the GFATM. USAID is offering support in finalizing this award, which will enable the country to scale-up HIV prevention among vulnerable populations.
