A Decade of Change
Profiles of USAID Assistance to Europe and Eurasia
The historic transformation of the countries of the former Soviet bloc into
democratic, independent states with market economies is barely a decade old.
The United States has been at the forefront in helping these nations become
market democracies, and the United States Agency for International Development
(USAID) has played an important role in delivering U.S. assistance.
A Decade of Change celebrates the tripartite relationship among
USAID, the people and institutions of the region, and the many U.S. implementing
partners that have participated in this assistance effort. The case studies
presented in this report focus on the individuals, businesses and communities
that have benefited from USAID programs. While these stories present only
a cross-section of USAID activities, they provide the reader with an understanding
of the progress that has been achieved and the challenges that remain in
the transition countries of Europe and Eurasia.
